Black History Month

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)–  Richland Library is highlighting the achievements of African Americans during the month of February to celebrate Black History Month.

Throughout the month of February the Richland Library will have various events that will help Midlands residents celebrate the month through art, food and history.

 

 

 

Below is a list of Richland Library Black History Month events on their Calendar for the month of February.

African American Genealogy: A Case Study

Tuesday, February 6

10:30 a.m.

Richland Library Blythewood

Karen Strickland the library says is from the Walker Local and Family History Center as she opens up a dialogue about the techniques she was able to use to trace an ancestor that was formerly enslaved and what she learned throughout the process.  Registration is required in order to attend.

 

A Visit from Dr. Ernest Everett Just, Research Scientist

Sunday, February 11

3:00 p.m.

Richland Library Main

Richando Library says this will be a “Chautauqua-style” performance by Donald Sweeper who will portray Dr. Ernest E. Just who was a pioneering African American Biologist, Academic and and Science Writer.

 

Celebrate A Taste of Black History

Saturday, February 17

2:00 p.m.

Richland Library Eastover

Taste some of the African-American inspired dishes and even take away a few ideas from some age old recipes handed down over the generations while celebrating Black History Month. Registration to attend this event is required.

 

A Taste of History: A Black History Month Celebration

Wednesday, February 21

3:30 p.m.

Richland Library Blythewood

Sample African-American inspired dishes as we share old family recipes and celebrate Black History Month! Registration is required.

 

Black History Month Jubilee Celebration

Thursday, February 29

6:00 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.

Richland Library Northeast

Head over to the Richland Library Northeast to celebrate Black History through by taking part in, or just listening to others recite their original poetry during an Open Mic night, move your feet during a display of African dance, and even check out a cooking demonstration by Chef Floyd.
