Greenville sheriff: 14 arrests in gang crimes
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Greenville County sheriff’s deputies have arrested 14 people and are searching for another suspect in connection with two shootings and other violent crimes tied to gang activity.
Greenville County Sheriff Steve Loftis said during a Tuesday news conference that the gang activity began with robberies June 3 and ended with two shootings July 17 that wounded 10 people.
Loftis says eight are charged, including the person sought. All 14 are in the Greenville County Detention Center. It isn’t clear if they have attorneys.
Loftis says the eight charged in the shooting face 51 counts of attempted murder, eight counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and six counts of criminal conspiracy.
He says other charges include multiple counts of burglary, armed robbery and kidnapping.
