Governor McMaster signs open carry bill into law
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has officially sign into law a bill that would allow anyone who can legally own a gun to carry it openly.
The bill includes penalties for people who repeatedly carry guns in places where they are banned like schools or courthouses. It also provides millions for gun training across the state.
The Constitutional Carry Bill was sent to McMaster’s desk on Wednesday after the Senate passed it with a 28-18 vote and the House approved a conference committee compromise version on Tuesday in an 86-33 vote.
“With my signature, South Carolina is now the 29th state in the country with constitutional carry. This bill expands the Second Amendment rights of our law-abiding citizens and will keep violent criminals behind bars with increased penalties for illegal gun use and possession,” McMaster stated in an X formerly known as Twitter post.
South Carolina is the twenty-ninth state in the country with a Co
nstitutional Carry.
