Richland County, S.C. (WOLO) — In a statement, Senator Joel Lourie (D) says that the information provided by the Richland County Recreation Commission in response to delegation member’s FOI request is “unsatisfactory.”

According to Lourie, the agency “chose to withhold the confidential report that has been the subject of much controversy and discussion.”

The Richland County Senator is expecting the majority of the delegation to make a formal call for action within the week.

One delegation member has already made a call for action.

On Monday Representative Mia McLeod (D) called for the resignation of Director James Brown and any supporting commissioners.

Amid allegations of fraud, bribery, nepotism and sexual assault as well as an ongoing SLED and FBI investigation, McLeod says this is the only way to restore public trust.

“It is simply a way to step out of the spotlight so that we can put it back where it belongs…. on the children and communities that this Commission serves.”

As a soccer coach for the Rec. Commission, Gerald Eichelberger has noticed a shift in service.

He explains,”To encounter these kinds of situations is just very frustrating as a parent and a taxpayer. I just feel like my tax dollars are being wasted.”

Eichelberger says proper decisions that put the county’s children first aren’t  being made or upheld.

According to the coach, “Everybody is putting their own personal interest before the children.I just think we need to get a clean slate and start a fresh.”

A sentiment McLeod says is core of her request for the resignations.

“The people of Richland County deserve a Recreation Commission that serves the community in a transparent, responsible and accountable way,” says McLeod.
