Demolition of Richland Mall begins in Forest Acres

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Day one of the demolition of the Richland Mall is now underway this morning in Forest Acres.

Forest Acres City leaders say it’s expected to take about a year to knock down and clear all 930 thousand square feet of concrete.

Last month, Southeastern Development shared renderings of the redesigning project which includes a mixed use space with restaurants, apartment housing, a grocery store and more.

The developers say they’re still awaiting final approval. City leaders say legislators received $3 million in funding within the recent state budget to secure the space.
