DHEC encouraging South Carolinians to keep measles vaccination rates up for children

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– At least 41 Measles cases have been reported in 16 states since the start of the year, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

However DHEC reports South Carolina has not seen any measles cases in quite some time.

Yet the agency warns there is always a possibility that cases could come considering the cases in other states.

Just like with all reportable diseases DHEC has a response plan ready for an outbreak in South Carolina that outlines how the agency will handle it, how the communities will be educated and provide vaccines if needed.

Dr. Martha Buchanan with DHEC is taking the time to encourage South Carolinians to keep measles vaccination rates up for children.
