Coroner to discuss death of SC football player
DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — The cause of death of a 14-year South Carolina high school football player who collapsed following practice last weekend is expected to be released.
Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee says he expects to know Friday if Tyquan Xavier Brantley died of the heat stress or some other cause.
Brantley collapsed following practice last Saturday morning. The Lamar High School team had finished working out in helmets but no pads.
The National Weather Service reported the temperature in the area last Saturday afternoon reached a near-record of 101 degrees.
