Woman charged with unlawfully placing child at risk

SledColumbia, SC (WOLO) — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged a woman accused of two counts of unlawfully placing a child at risk. The charges were filed against 27-year-old Codi Raye Scott (Carter) of Edgefield County on Friday, June 21.

According to SLED, agents arrested Scott in connection to the death of a toddler in the area. According to a warrant obtained by ABC Columbia News, Scott is accused of placing an unsafe mouthpiece in the victim’s mouth, which the warrant goes on to say obstructed the upper airway leading to the child’s death while in her care.

Scott is being held in the Edgefield County Detention Center.
