RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A man was convicted by a Richland County jury of voluntary manslaughter on Thursday, June 27.
Telvin Jackson is accused of killing 24-year-old Khamori Scott on May 26, 2020.
Investigators say prior to Jackson killing Scott, the two of them joined each other on a financial scheme involving unemployment due to COVID-19.
RCSD says Scott went to Jackson’s home to demand payment, but Jackson was not at home.
His girlfriend who was home at the time of the visit, called him and told him, Scott was yelling and looking for him.
After that incident, the police was called but no report was filed due to the girlfriend saying everything was fine.
On May 26, 2020, Jackson was sitting in his car in his driveway with a friend when a car pulled up behind him, blocking his car in the driveway, says Richland County investigators.
According to investigators, the victim walked up to Jackson’s open window, put a gun to his head and told Jackson to give him the money he was owed.
Jackson gave Scott the money before Scott threw the money back towards Jackson. At some point the car that was in the way, no longer blocked Jackson and he was able to leave.
Scott and two others remained outside of Jackson’s home in their cars.
Richland County deputies say Scott then texted his girlfriend that he “drew down” on Jackson and that he received his money.
Scott also told her that Jackson apologized, they made up, and he was sitting in Jackson’s yard waiting for him to come back.
When Jackson left he went to his father’s house and got a loaded handgun, says RCSD. Jackson then drove back and called 911 saying he was robbed by Scott.
He told authorities he was mad, multiple times saying he was going to shoot Scott when he got back home. When he returned, Jackson got out of the car with the gun, walked up to Scott, and shot him one time.
Jackson then ran through his backyard and into his neighbor’s. Scott was able to call 911 after he was shot and told them Jackson shot him in the stomach.
When law enforcement arrived, Jackson was found in the backyard with a gun. Two bullet casings were found in Jackson’s yard that were tested and determined to be from his gun.
EMS arrived and took Scott to the hospital, where he later died from being shot one time in his side. Jackson was arrested by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and charged with murder.
He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
