South Carolina’s tax-free weekend starts Friday
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina is kicking off Tax Free Weekend this month and adding some relief to families as inflation continues to rise.
During the weekend of Friday, August 2, shoppers around the state will have the chance to save some money.
Tax Free Weekend ends on Sunday, August 4, so shoppers will have a weekend long of deals as the school year comes near.
The annual 72 hour event began in 2000 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
SCDOR says last year South Carolina shoppers bought more than $30.4 million in tax free items during the event weekend, saving shoppers more than $1.8 million in sales tax.
Also, the South Carolina Department of Revenue SCDOR is reminding shoppers that computers, clothes, school supplies, and a variety of other school-year essentials can be purchased without paying sales tax.
“As inflation continues to drain many wallets, this year’s Tax Free Weekend offers some relief for weary families. Every shopper saves money during this tax holiday, particularly on back-to-school essentials,” says SCDOR Director Hartley Powell.
