Claflin Basketball Travels to Augusta University Thursday
Orangeburg, S.C. (Claflin) — The Claflin University men’s basketball team will be in search of their first win of the season Thursday(Nov. 17th), when they to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) member Augusta University.
The non-conference matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Christenberry Fieldhouse on the Augusta campus.
This will be the second meeting between the two Division II teams. Claflin won last year’s contest 66-62.
The Panthers will enter the contest fresh off a heart-breaking 73-71 loss to Francis Marion, another Peach Belt Conference team on Tuesday. Claflin rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit before falling in the closing seconds.
The Panthers connected on a season-high 13 three pointers with junior Triston Thompson leading the way with four. He finished the game with a team-high 16 points.
Seniors Trevor Dantzler and Ryan McNeill-Moses added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
As for Augusta, the Jaguars are perfect on the season at 2-0 following wins over Mount Oliver 82-67 and Barton 85-76.
Senior Keshun Sherrill is the top scorer for Augusta with 23 points per game. He’s followed by sophomore Tyvez Monroe at 13.5 points.
After the road game, Claflin will play host to Fayetteville State Saturday (Nov. 19th) for homecoming.
