ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A former correctional officer is accused of delivering contraband to inmates in a detention center, said Orangeburg County sheriff.
According to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, 26-year-old Tatyana Izlar was charged Thursday, July 11, with one count of furnishing prisoners alcoholic beverages or narcotic drugs and one count of furnishing or possessing contraband in county or municipal jail.
Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office investigators were notified on Monday, July 8, of narcotics making their way into the Orangeburg-Calhoun Detention Center.
An investigation led to Izlar, who eventually admitted to being paid to make a delivery, according to a incident report.
Ravenell said investigators seized a quantity of marijuana and a cell phone from Izlar’s vehicle.
“We were asked by the detention center director to investigate the possibility that contraband was being brought in and that investigation led to a correctional officer being charged,” Sheriff Ravenell said.
She faces up to between 1 and 10 years in prison if convicted of furnishing or possessing contraband in a jail, per the SC Code of Laws.
