The Mirage Hotel and Casino closing after 34 years

(CNN)– It’s the end of an era.

The Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas closes on Wednesday, July 17, after 34 years in business.

The resort will throw a farewell event with doors officially closing this afternoon.

The closing ceremony caps off a week-long event honoring the resort’s history and legacy.

The iconic casino will be transformed into a new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, set to open in 2027.

Its famous sidewalk attraction, the erupting volcano will be destroyed to make space for new rooms.

The new integrated resort will feature a nearly 700 foot guitar shaped hotel at the center of the Vegas strip.
