Starting Coastal Carolina guard suspended
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Coastal Carolina University starting guard Danny Nieman has been suspended for the fall semester for violating the school’s code of conduct.
Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek said Thursday that Neiman was suspended but would not comment further.
The 21-year-old Nieman was stopped last month in a vehicle with six other people and charged with an open container violation.
He was arrested in his hometown of Concord, N.C., in 2009 and pled guilty to a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession charge. He received 24 hours of community service and 12 months of probation.
Nieman started all 34 games and averaged 6.2 points a game last season. Coastal finished 28-6 and played in the National Invitation Tournament.
There was no response to a telephone message the AP left at the Nieman residence in Concord.
