One Person Dead In Officer-Involved Shooting in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCCB) –Police say a man has died in an officer-involved shooting on Albemarle Road in east Charlotte.  This is near Farm Pond Lane.

CMPD says an officer was driving an undercover vehicle on Albermarle Road when he was sideswiped by another driver.  Police say the driver did not stop so the officer followed in his unmarked vehicle.  At some point, police say the driver of the vehicle that sideswiped the undercover officer’s vehicle got out of his vehicle armed with a gun.  That’s when police say the officer fired his weapon, striking and killing the man.

The passenger in the vehicle with the man who was shot and killed stayed at the scene.  No officers were injured.  CMPD says a gun has been recovered from the scene.

CMPD Deputy Chief Jeff Estes says this is a road rage incident that turned out to be tragic.

Expect major delays in the area as traffic has been blocked while police investigate.  This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
