SC woman sues over children’s train crash
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A Cherokee County woman is suing state and local officials after the children’s train crash in March that killed one boy and injured 28 people.
Misti Harris of Cherokee County is suing the state Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, a former inspector, the train conductor and Spartanburg County for the injuries to her two sons.
The suit alleges negligence by the county and other government agencies and employees and former employees.
The attorney for Harris said he hopes to overturn a state law that limits liability to a total of $600,000 for the crash.
A Labor Department spokeswoman said the agency doesn’t talk about pending litigation. There was no response from Spartanburg County officials.
The lawsuit was first reported by WSPA-TV.
