Parents Charged with Neglect After Son Shot Himself
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A Branchville couple was arrested after their 3-year-old son suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Timothy Ryan Collins, 29, and Brittany Collins,25, are were charged with unlawful neglect of a child.
The shooting occurred last week while Ryan Collins was at Sunshine Recycling attempting to locate a part for his car, which had broken down earlier, deputies say.
Ryan said his vehicle had a flat tire and was on his way to get a replacement tire from the salvage yard when he called his wife to bring her car so he could continue car repairs.
Deputies say Collins removed a handgun from his car and placed it inside Brittany’s car.
The condition of the child is unknown but remains hospitalized.
He turns four Thursday.
