Clarise Payano, 21, is charged with charged with two counts of felony counts of DUI involving death and driving with a license.
Her bond was denied.
The Richland County Coroner has identified the victims as 38-year-old Kekima Lashaun Alexander of Bronx, New York and 31-year-old Latoya Nicole Garcia of Orangeburg.
Gary Watts said Alexander and Garcia died of multiple blunt force trauma.
Alexander was changing the right rear tire of the vehicle on the shoulder of I-20, when authorities say Payano struck the vehicle.
According to Highway Patrol, the couple’s 11-month old infant was also in the vehicle when it was struck.
The infant was in a car seat and did not sustain serious injuries.
The accident caused a domino effect crash that shut down portions of I-20 near Mile Marker 70 near Farrow Road.
As law enforcement officers arrived to assist with the scene a second accident occurred where State Trooper Lance Corporal David Jones says a tractor trailer slammed into a Richland County Sheriff’s Deputy’s cruiser, causing even more congestion.
