CCU Suspends Cheerleading Team Pending Investigation, Team Calls Accusations “False”

CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) — Coastal Carolina University has suspended its cheerleading team, according to Mona Prufer, spokesperson for the university.

In a email sent to ABC 15 on Thursday, Prufer stated:

“We can confirm the Coastal Carolina University cheerleading team has been suspended indefinitely pending a conduct investigation. There are currently no incident reports pertaining to this investigation.”

In a statement released on Friday, the team called the accusations false and said they have “led to harassment on campus as well as through social media.”

The team also said they no longer wish to be contacted about the situation.

The full statement reads:

At this point in time, we no longer wish to be contacted about the current situation. The false accusations have led to harassment on campus as well as through social media, and are beginning to negatively impact our daily lives as well as our studies. As a team we ask the community to support us through these tough times as we hope the situation will be cleared up shortly.
