SLED Called to Officer Involved Shooting in Hanahan

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCIV) — Hanahan police responded to a home on Woodside Drive early Saturday morning for reports of a suicidal person.
HPD officials said the man had been drinking and was holding a gun to his head.
When officers arrived just after 3 a.m. and tried to help him, they said the situation escalated into a standoff.
During negotiations, police said the man pointed the gun at an officer and another officer fired his weapon in response.
The man was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Officials said he was in critical condition.
No officers were hurt and the State Law Enforcement Division has been called in to investigate.
Hanahan PD officials said the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the SLED investigation and an internal investigation.
