Fort Jackson 5K run honors fallen soldiers

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) — The Army’s largest training installation is sponsoring a 5-kilometer run and walk to honor fallen South Carolina soldiers and those they left behind.
Fort Jackson spokesman Pat Jones said the public is welcome to join in on Saturday’s event. Those who wish to participate must bring photo identification and if they are driving, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance for their vehicle.
Registration is held at Hilton Field starting at 7 a.m. Saturday until just before the run begins.
Organizers are providing bibs for participants listing the name of a fallen South Carolina soldier, including the active duty, National Guard and Reserve military forces who have given their lives since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
