3-year-old killed in accidental SC shooting

LORIS, S.C. (AP) — Police in Horry County say a 3-year-old boy has died after what appears to be an accidental shooting.

Lt. Raul Denis says police were called to a home in the Red Bluff section of Loris Saturday morning after a 911 call reporting that a young boy had accidentally shot himself.

The boy was taken to Grand Strand Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the boy was inside a vehicle, with his mother and her boyfriend close by, when he discovered a pistol that was left nearby.

Police have not yet released the name of the child.

Denis says the investigation is still in progress and police don’t know yet whether criminal charges will be filed.
