SC police arrest Ga. suspect after manhunt

SYCAMORE, S.C. (AP) — Allendale County sheriff’s deputies say a fugitive who stole a Georgia police officer’s cruiser has been caught after carjacking another vehicle.

Police say 37-year-old Perry Sullivan was caught at a roadblock in rural Colleton County Saturday morning. He’s currently being held in Hampton County Jail, and it wasn’t immediately clear if he has a lawyer.

Police had been searching for Sullivan since Thursday. They say a deputy from Stephens County, Ga., was taking the suspect from South Carolina to face a burglary charge in the neighboring state. Investigators say Sullivan lied about being sick, slipped out of his handcuffs and overpowered the officer, stealing his gun and patrol car.

The cruiser was found a few hours later. Sullivan will likely face additional charges stemming from the two-day manhunt.
