RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A 12-year-old child has been charged in connection with a shooting that happened on Veterans Day, say deputies.
Richland County Sheriff’s Department says the 12-year-old is being charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon under 18, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Additionally, the child is being charged with armed robbery in connection with a separate incident.
RCSD says on Monday, Nov. 11, just before 7 p.m. deputies responded in the 3600 block of Ranch Road in reference to a shooting.
When a deputy arrived at the scene, a 14-year-old was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation revealed that the 12-year-old and four other juveniles became involved in a verbal argument when the 12-year-old pulled out a gun and began shooting, and hit the 14-year-old victim, according to Richland County deputies.
The child left the scene before law enforcement arrived to the scene. The 14-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
The 12-year-old was later identified and on Friday, Nov. 15, he turned himself in at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters.
The other four juveniles were cleared of any criminal charges.
He was also charged with armed robbery in connection to an incident that happened in the 2200 block of East Boundary Road on March 1.
When deputies arrived, they met with the victim and determined that it was an armed robbery of a man around 2 p.m. that afternoon.
Through the course of the investigation, the 12-year-old was found to be the suspect in that incident, according to deputies.
The 12-year-old was booked at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ).
