Juvenile, man arrested after driver runs red light
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– According to RCSD, a driver and a 17-year-old has been arrested after running a red light.
The sheriff’s office says early Wednesday morning, Nov. 27, around 2 a.m. a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the Broad River Road and Briargate Circle area on a black Chevrolet Malibu for running a red light.
Deputies say when the vehicle stopped, everyone inside of the car was asked to step out and that is when deputies notice a 17-year-old reaching in his waistband.
As deputies began to search the teen for weapons, the 17-year-old who was handcuffed at the time, again began reaching toward their waistband, says RCSD.
The teen is accused of fighting the deputies in an attempt to leave the scene, when they hit the deputy in the face, causing minor lacerations, and swelling.
During the incident, the teen was able to grab the gun in their waistband which led to a struggle for the gun between the teen and the deputies.
Additional deputies arrived on scene and deputies were able to take possession of the gun.
Deputies say an inspection of the gun found that the top and bottom of the firearm displayed two different serial numbers, indicating that they were from two different firearms.
Both serial numbers came back as stolen.
The 17-year-old was booked at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ).
He is charged with two counts of possession of a stolen firearm, minor in possession of a firearm, assault, and simple possession of marijuana.
The driver, 30-year-old Trevius Warren, 30, was charged with possession of a schedule I controlled substance and taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
