Storms lead to floods, downed trees in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Strong storms rumbling through South Carolina’s capital city led to a busy night for local firefighters.

Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey D. Jenkins said his department responded to more than 80 calls for serving in a three-hour period Wednesday.

Jenkins said in a statement that the calls included flooding, downed live power lines and toppled trees in roadways and on homes.

The State of Columbia reported that one person trapped in a home was seriously hurt and transported to the hospital.
