Two 15-year-olds arrested in Columbia for attempted murder

 

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — According to Sheriff Leon Lott with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, two 15-year-olds have been arrested for attempted murder, burglary 1st, possession of a stolen vehicle, and failure to stop for blue lights and sirens.

Sunday morning, at approximately 2:30 a.m., deputies say they initiated a traffic stop of a stolen vehicle on Winnsboro Road. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.

Shortly afterwards the passenger began shooting at deputies. Deputies were not injured.

Another deputy, shot at the suspects as they drove by, disabling the vehicle via spike strips.  The juveniles fled on foot.

Deputies set up a perimeter and were able to locate and apprehend both suspects.

Two guns were recovered at the scene. Both juveniles were taken to DJJ.

Sheriff Lott will hold a press conference on Monday to release additional information.
