Shots Fired Outside Downtown Hotel

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Columbia Police are trying to piece together what led up to a report of shots fired outside the Clarion Hotel on Gervais Street Tuesday night. According to police spokesperson, Jennifer Timmons, no one was injured. Timmons says preliminary information shows the incident happened around 11 o’clock Tuesday night when a Royal Cab driver allegedly had an argument with a patron inside the cab. It is believed the cabbie thought the patron was not going to pay the tab. Police say there may have been a brief altercation causing the patron to yell for help. Witnesses on scene tell ABC Columbia News, they heard a woman yelling, “Help me, help me,” before hearing two gun shots. Those same witnesses reportedly ran over to help the victim and called 911. Timmons say the cabbie was detained, charges are pending. ABC Columbia News will continue to follow this developing story, bringing you updates as they become available.
