(WCIV) — President Joe Biden will travel to Charleston on Sunday, Jan. 19, according to the White House.
No additional details were revealed by the White House Tuesday. Biden is expected to attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, Jan. 20.
President Biden last visited South Carolina in October to survey the damage wrought by Hurricane Helene. His last visit to Charleston was just over a year ago, speaking at Mother Emanuel AME Church on Jan. 8, 2024.
Biden’s previous visit to the Holy City was an attempt to kickstart his 2024 campaign for re-election before he ultimately dropped out of the race and Vice President Kamala Harris took his place as the Democratic nominee.
His Jan. 2024 speech at Mother Emanuel was protested both inside and outside the historic church, with pro-Palestinian activists protesting against the Biden administration’s stance and the United States’ involvement in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
