CPD: Child Accidentally Shoots Self, Father Commits Suicide

Columbia, S.C.(WOLO)–Columbia police say Wednesday morning two year old Kyree Myers found a loaded gun inside a home on Truax Ln. and accidentally shot himself.

Investigators say the child’s mother was home at the time and called 911.

When police arrived they say the child’s father, 38 year old Keon Myers, was threatening to shoot himself, in spite of their pleas investigators say he pulled the trigger.

Coroner Gary Watts says both the father and child died from gunshot wounds to the head.

Police are working to determine the gun’s origin and ownership.
