COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) –
Today, Santee Cooper and SCE&G executives will testify before a legislative panel investigating the V.C. Summer shutdown. The meeting is set to open with a briefing of the February 2016 report that the companies reportedly kept a secret until lawmakers threatened to subpoena it. According to the Associated Press, the two utilities hired Bechtel Corp. in 2015 to assess the construction status of two nuclear reactor projects. Reportedly, the analysis found serious problems with the two projects long before both utilities abandoned them July 31 after spending almost $10 billion. Customers have now spent more than $2 billion dollars collectively on the failed projects through a series of rate hikes since 2009.
