SC environmental group objects to 955-foot walkway

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — An environmental group is objecting to plans by a Hilton Head Island man to build a 955-foot walkway to a floating dock off Hilton Head Island.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported (http://bit.ly/oPWpDe ) the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League is concerned about how the dock will affect wildlife habitat, navigation and the flow of water through Old House Creek.

Jeff Myers says he’s applying for what is permitted by law and will work with state regulators to do what is legal.

The state’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management is reviewing the permit.
