CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Plans are moving forward for a $142 million makeover of a Charleston auditorium to create a world class performing arts center.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (http://bit.ly/owipXi ) that the city’s Board of Architectural Review has approved preliminary design plans for the renovation of the city’s Gaillard Municipal Auditorium.
The building will be used as a major venue for the internationally known Spoleto Festival. Plans call for reducing the size of the auditorium from 2,700 seats to 1,800.
The schedule calls for work to begin next year with the building to be finished in 2014.
