Airport High Student Arrested after Administrators Found Handgun in Backpack

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WOLO) – A school resource officer arrested a teenager Tuesday (9/26) morning after a handgun was found in his backpack.

The unnamed Airport High School student is being held by the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice after school administrators found the weapon in his backpack.

According to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, administrators became aware of the student possibly having a gun at school Tuesday morning. LCSD says his belongings were searched and an unloaded .380 pistol, both .380 and another caliber of ammunition, and drug paraphernalia were all found.

The Lexington County school resource officer assigned to Airport High detained the student on a charge of possessing a handgun on school property.

LCSD says the teen, who is not being identified because he’s under the age of 17, will appear in Lexington County Family Court at a later date.
