H.S. Homecoming Banner Breeds Bad Blood

Florence, SC (WOLO) —-The parents of some Florence High School student are upset over a banner students made for their upcoming face off.  The students created a handwritten banner bringing back bad memories for some taunting the opposing with a message saying  ” We’ll leave you in a Trail of Tears.”

The opposing team is the “Braves’ who has a Mascot that features Native American Symbols making some outraged over what they called “Disgusting and Hurtful” One parent saying, “The trail of tears is the genocide of an entire race of people, Native Americans, removing them from their homelands and taking it from them. That’s not something you use as a theme for your school, for your homecoming.”

The president of the Forest High School says the students have since apologized for the banner, and plans to use this incident as a learning experience. That banner however, has since been removed.
