Sheheen: Ethics dismisses frivolous claims by GOP

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) âone space€one space” State Sen. Vincent Sheheen accuses state Republicans of wasting taxpayer money by making frivolous ethics allegations that have been thrown out. The Democrat running for governor said Thursday the state Ethics Commission dismissed three complaints filed by the state GOP. He says the claims suggest desperation. GOP Chairman Matt Moore called Sheheen’s news conference a stunt. A rematch is expected next year between Sheheen and Gov. Nikki Haley. Sheheen says one complaint accused him of not reporting his airfare to a fundraiser, when he drove himself to the event. Another questioned reimbursing a campaign volunteer. Sheheen says the volunteer was paid for his gas because he was driving 120 miles daily back and forth to Camden. He says the claims wasted the time and money of the ethics agency’s staff.
