NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Newberry County deputies have arrested a man for attempted murder after he was accused of hitting someone in the head with an ax, said the sheriff’s office.

On Monday, March 24, deputies say they were called to the 1200 block of U.S. Highway 176 outside of Pomaria for reports of an assault.

Deputies were told that a person had been hit in the head with an ax and possibly stabbed by a person who then went into the woods.

A witness identified the person accused as 48-year-old William Gallman.

After a brief chase, deputies arrested Gallman, and took him to the Newberry County Detention Center.
