A Michigan bookshop finds unique way to move books to new location
Michigan (AP) — I think we all can agree that moving is the worst. amiright? boxes and boxes of pure crap… and you and i both know the feeling when you get to boxes full of books. Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about. Now, we go to Chelsea Michigan, where a bookstore upgraded their space, and the new location is right around the corner. Literally. So, how do you move thousands of books in just a few hours? The book brigade!
Neighbors formed a human chain and helped a local bookshop move each of its 9,100 books — one by one — to a new storefront about a block away. the “book brigade” of around 300 people stood in two lines running along a sidewalk in downtown Chelsea on Sunday. What they did was, they passed each title from serendipity books’ former location directly to the correct shelves in the new building, down the block and around the corner. The whole operation took just under two hours. Which is much shorter than hiring a moving company to box and unbox the thousands of titles.
The brigade even put the books back on the shelves in alphabetical order. Now they hope to have that new location open in two weeks.
