Gas prices in South Carolina rise, ending weeks of decline
(WCIV) — The average price of gas in South Carolina has risen as of Sunday, breaking a weeks long trend of steadily declining prices, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,028 stations in South Carolina.
Average gasoline prices in South Carolina rose 4.7 cents per gallon in the last week, now averaging $2.72 per gallon Monday.
“Average gasoline prices in the U.S. have been volatile over the past week, with roughly half of the 50 states seeing prices decline while the other half experienced increases,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
With costs sitting just under the $3 range, prices in SC are 4.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and a whopping 49.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
GasBuddy reports that the cheapest station in SC was priced at $2.35 per gallon Sunday while the most expensive was $3.29 per gallon, a near full dollar difference per gallon.
Meanwhile, though prices in the Lowcountry have dropped, the national average price of gasoline is unchanged, averaging $3.10 per gallon Monday.
“For now, I expect the national average to bounce around in the $3.10 to $3.20 per gallon range over the coming week, with a continued mixed bag for consumers,” said De Haan.
The national average is down 3.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 52.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
