Charleston jailer charged with sex with inmate

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A guard at the Charleston County jail is accused of having sex with a female inmate.

The State Law Enforcement Division says 25-year-old Samuel Lamar Brown of Charleston is charged with misconduct and first degree sexual misconduct with an inmate. Arrest warrants state that Brown had sex with a female inmate between June 17 and June 27.

Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady says Brown is on leave without pay until the charges are resolved. Brown has been a corrections officer since 2009.

Brady says another inmate reported the relationship.

It wasn’t clear if Brown has an attorney.
