North Charleston teen gets 40 years for murder

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A 16-year-old North Charleston youth has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after being convicted of murder in the shooting death of another teen.

Circuit Judge J.C. Nicholson Jr. sentenced Derell Green in Charleston County court Thursday.

Green was tried as an adult and convicted last week in the shooting death of 17-year-old Larry Maybank. Authorities say Green and two others attacked Maybank, stealing a gold chain.

Green was 14 at the time of the attack and shooting.
