What in the World with Doug Currin

Columbia, SC (WOLO) — In tonight’s What in the World File,  is A.I. getting out of control? Artificial Intelligence is reaching new heights and lows all at the same time.There’s a company called ‘Anthropic’. They have this model of A.I. called “Claude Opus,” much like Amazon has Alexa, and Apple has Siri.

Get this, some engineers gave Claude a storyline and purpose. The programmed it to know it was an assistant to a fictional company. one employee was having an affair with another, and Claude, the A.I. also knew, thru texts and emails it was reading that there were plans to take Claude offline.

Well,  this upset Claude and the A.I. made it clear to the engineers that it knew about their plans of taking it offline. It also told them to think about the long-term consequences of doing such things. It threatened to send out emails, texts, photos and links to anything having to do with this extramarital affair to anyone who had a phone number or email address. It essentially was extortion. Evil. this A.I. was engaging in strategic deception, meaning it’s capable of in-context scheming. Has A.I. gone too far?
