Medical Advance Tops 2013’s Scientific Breakthroughs
COLUMBIA, S.C. (ABC NEWS) – 2013 it has been a big year for researchers. Now, “Science Magazine” has picked its top 10 breakthroughs for the year. Turning our own immune system against cancer…it’s a big deal, for potentially millions of people. Such a big deal, in fact, that this advance came out at the top of this year ‘s “Most Important Scientific Breakthroughs”, according to “Science Magazine.” Of course, this accolade has been 30 years in the making and while still experimental, cancer immuno-therapy is slowly making its way into the hospital showing promise in many patients, giving hope to doctors. rounding out the list of breakthroughs, a host of other health advances. Scientists this year have figured out how our brains “take out the trash” while we sleep they’ve cloned human stem cells and they’ve learned how to build a better vaccine for a virus that kills 160 ,000 children each year worldwide. What’s next? It’s hard to say. However, this year’s advances suggest a bright outlook for 2014 and beyond.
