Mother and toddler son killed in deadly wreck

Lexington, SC (WOLO) — A deadly crash along Old Dunbar Road in West Columbia claimed the life of a mother and her three year old son Friday morning.

According to the Lexington County Coroner, 32 year old Mesia Alonda Johnson was driving her car around 9 Friday morning The South Carolina Highway Patrol says she crossed the center lane and hit a tractor trailer head on.

Officials say the only passenger in the car was Johnson’s three year old son, Cavon Cannon who was taken to an area hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities say Ms. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Lexington Coroner, Margaret Fisher says Johnson was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, but say her son was not restrained.

The crash is still being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
