Grief Changes Christmas for Local Family
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “If you need something or you need something done, he don’t mind doing it,” says Helen George, Michael George’s mother Helen George still speaks of her son, Michael, like he’s alive. “I can’t imagine him not being here,” says Helen George Lexington County deputies say the 22 year old was killed in late December 2011, his body then buried in a hole in a wooded area near a home on Busbee Road. It took nearly two years to find him. “The last couple of years has been learning new things I never knew before and doing things I never would’ve done if he had not been missing,” says Gary George, Michael George’s father. Michael’s father, Gary, sat down with us Monday night… the “Help Find Michael” Facebook page in the background. Deputies say Michael George was kidnapped from Shooters Bar in Cayce between December 23rd and December 24, 2011. Since Christmas Day 2011, his family has been searching for him. Then this week, they learned his remains were positively identified. “Its the good news that nobody wants to hear,” says Gary George. The Christmas holiday, for the George family, is forever changed by grief. “The day Michael went missing I hate it, I hate it to this day. If I could take the whole month of December off, I would take it,” says Helen George Though, a part of Michael seems greater. “I got seven grand kids, two by Michael, that always I don’t care who you are will put you in the Christmas spirit,” says Gary George Now, another Christmas is here and Michael isn’t, as he planned to do with his Mom the day before he disappeared. “We talked about seeing each other tomorrow, about doing things together,” says Helen George. Something Helen can no longer do. But, it’s the promise to Helen that Gary says he made his mission. “I promised his Mom and everybody else that he would be home to her… and he is,” says Gary George.
