Myrtle Beach business owners: summer season OK

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Myrtle Beach business owners say the best thing about the 2011 vacation season is that revenues didn’t drop.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported (http://bit.ly/r7BdJN) that area business owners say revenue growth was minimal, resulting in what some call a good, but not great, summer.
Several new high-profile attractions such the SkyWheel and Pirates Voyage theater show helped lure crowds and generate publicity for Myrtle Beach.
Gary Loftus is a Horry County council member and director of Coastal Carolina University’s Center for Economic and Community Development. He says the summer could have been better, but the area is doing remarkably well, all things considered.
