Gas prices in South Carolina drop slightly ahead of hurricane season peak
(WCIV) — The average price of gas dropped slightly in the past week, falling 2.2 cents per gallon, matching a similar drop nationally of 2.7 cents per gallon.
Prices at the pump for most South Carolinians are averaging at about $2.75 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,028 stations in South Carolina.
Data also shows that prices in South Carolina are averaging at 3.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and currently stand 27.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
The cheapest station in South Carolina was priced at $2.44 per gallon Sunday while the most expensive was $3.49 per gallon, a difference of just over a dollar, at $1.05 per gallon.
Meanwhile the national average price of gas has also fallen in the last week, dropping 2.7 cents per gallon and averaging at approximately $3.08 per gallon today.
“After rising for two straight weeks, the national average price of gasoline saw a slight decline in the last week as oil prices fell below $64 per barrel, paving the way for prices to ease in most states,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
The national average is down 7.0 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 32.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
“As we approach the peak of hurricane season, forecasts are showing favorable conditions for tropical development, so we’ll be watching closely for any potential impact on supply and prices as Labor Day nears,” said De Haan.
