Classes Canceled Monday at SC State University after two separate weekend shootings

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–Classes at South Carolina State University are canceled today after two separate shootings Saturday night left a woman dead and a man wounded.
Campus police say there was a shots fired alert at the Hugine Suites Student Residence.
According to the coroner, 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler died from injuries in one shooting.
Another man injured, in a separate shooting, was taken to the hospital.

According to SLED, 18-year-old Matthew McCoy was arrested and he faces charges of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, and carrying a weapon on school property.
Homecoming events were cancelled Sunday due to the shooting Saturday. On Sunday night at 6pm University officials hosted a safety town hall online.
The university was on lockdown Sunday and early Monday morning, meaning no one who is not a student or staff was allowed on campus.
