SC State University to resume classes Wednesday after weekend shootings

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–South Carolina State University says classes are canceled once again today but will resume Wednesday.
The canceled classes follow two separate campus shootings over the weekend that left one woman dead and another man injured.

Police say the Saturday night shootings near Hugine suites and Poplar Hall resulted in the death of 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler.
Another man, injured in a separate shooting on campus, was taken to a hospital.
SLED says it has arrested 18-year-old Matthew McCoy in connection with one of the shootings. McCoy has been charged with “pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and carrying a weapon on school property.”
The University’s President says neither victim, nor McCoy, were students.
University officials say a police substation will be built near Hugine suites in the next 30 days to further security.
Classes will resume Wednesday.
