SLED: Lexington County man charged with carrying weapon on school property

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– SLED says a man has been charged with carrying a weapon on school property.

18-year-old Jimmy Lee Thompson, Jr., was charged on Thursday, October 9, after deputies found a loaded FN handgun under a chair in a common area on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The handgun was found while investigators were executing a search warrant after two shootings took place in the area.

Thompson told a SLED agent that he was sleeping in the chair.

Investigators say he was the only person in the Hugine Suites common area.

He was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

SLED’s investigations into two shootings that occurred at S.C. State are active and ongoing.
